The guides describe how roof measurement, roof documents and roofing quotes generally work in the United States. Building codes, licensing rules and insurance terms differ from state to state and town to town, and every roof is different. Reading this site does not create an advisory or professional relationship of any kind.
For decisions about a particular roof, rely on professionals who work where you live, your local building department, your state licensing agency and the terms of your own insurance policy. The terms of use set this out in full.
There is no contact form and no monitored inbox, so the site cannot answer questions about individual roofs.
How the guides are checked
Keeping the content accurate
- The arithmetic in every worked example, including pitch factors, square counts and waste totals, was recalculated before publication.
- Descriptions of roof parts and flashing follow widely published installation practice, and the glossary uses definitions most roofers would recognize.
- Statements about codes, licensing and insurance are kept general and point readers to the local authority, because those rules vary.
- The guides do not promise outcomes. They explain what to look at and what to ask.
- The site was published in September 2026.
One rule throughout: stay off the roof
Every guide on this site can be followed without leaving the ground. Never climb onto or walk a roof to check something you have read here, and never go up on a storm-damaged roof. A yard, an upstairs window and a pair of binoculars show most of what you need, and a roofer or inspector can handle the rest.
